Programme Coverage
An initiative of the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Pillar 3 of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the GSFP is part of Ghana’s efforts towards the United Nations Millennium Development Goals on hunger, poverty and primary education.
The GSFP began late in 2005 with 10 pilot schools, drawn from each region of the country. The pilot phase ended in 2006 covering 64,775 beneficiary pupils. The first phase was then rolled out in 2007 spanning a period of four (4) years (2007-2010). The number of beneficiary pupils at the end of the first phase was 413,498. In 2008, the number rose to 441,189 pupils. By 2009, coverage had reached 580,025 pupils. Currently, beneficiary pupils of are over 2, 600, 000 in about 9000 school in all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs)
